How does Active Release Technique work?

When muscles are injured or overused, they can develop scar tissue. This scar tissue can accumulate and bind between your muscles. This limits your flexibility and causes stiffness and pain in your muscles and joints.

With active release techniques, your practitioner will combine manipulation with movement to release accumulated scar tissue. ART chiropractors identify the location of the scar tissue and apply pressure to it while the patient actively flexes and extends the affected muscle. This breaks up the scar tissue, releases any entrapped nerves, and restores proper blood flow. With just a few sessions, your pain will be gone, leaving you free to return to your full and active lifestyle.

Who might benefit from Accelerate Health Denver's Active Release Therapy?

Active release technique was originally developed to treat top-level athletes and Olympians who needed to stay on top of their game. But they aren’t the only ones who can benefit from ART. Active release therapy has something to offer almost everyone, and ART chiropractors can offer treatment and relief to people at all activity levels.

Active release therapy can treat pain caused by injury or damage to any soft tissue. This includes:

Strains or pulls on major muscle groups

Inflammation of the connective tissue (fascia) supporting your muscles and organs

Damage to tendons caused by long term wear and tear

Ligaments torn through awkward landings or twisting

Here are some painful statistics:

60-80%

60-80% of adults suffer from lower back pain or chronic neck pain

3 Million

3 million people a year get shin splints

60%

Tension headaches afflict 60% of adults in America

40%

40% of adults will deal with sciatic nerve pain

6%

Carpal tunnel syndrome affects up to 6% of adults

1 in 10

One in ten people will experience plantar fasciitis in their lifetime

With numbers like that, it’s clear that if you aren’t already dealing with the effects of soft tissue disorder, you probably will in the near future. If you’ve been diagnosed or treated for any of these conditions, you’ve probably been frustrated by the persistent pain and limited motion that haven’t gone away with other treatments or therapies. Active release therapy might be the solution you’ve been looking for.
