Coming from a family of physicians spanning the spectrum of healthcare, Dr. Brittany Downing always knew she wanted to be in medicine, but wasn’t sure which avenue to take until she was in a car accident in college. Her motor vehicle collision left her with severe neck and back pain that didn’t improve until she visited a chiropractor. Thanks to the tremendous care she received from her chiropractor, she made a full recovery, and was inspired to pursue the path to becoming a chiropractic physician.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts and Science in English Literature with minors in both Chemistry and History from CU Boulder, she went on to study chiropractic medicine at the prestigious University of Western States in Portland, OR. In addition to UWS’s curriculum, she has attended additional training to further her clinical expertise in Graston Technique, Webster Technique, functional medicine, the Neurovascular Institute and the Motion Palpation Institute. She is also a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and fulfills continuing education credits with them yearly. Due to her experience with her own car accident, she has attended multiple seminars to enhance her skills for personal injury documentation and is also a Level I Worker’s Compensation accredited chiropractic provider. Dr. Downing also holds a Level 2 Dry Needling certification.
From early on in her practice, she developed a special interest in offering prenatal chiropractic care. Being able to help women understand the changes their bodies go through during pregnancy and help to alleviate the common complaints associated with pregnancy has truly become her passion. Dr. Downing also specializes in postpartum and pediatric chiropractic care. As a prenatal chiropractor in Denver, Dr. Downing works closely with birth centers and mommy groups in the area and is proud to be so closely involved in this wonderful community.
Along with offering prenatal chiropractic care in Denver, she offers nutritional consultations to help work on the body from the inside out, restoring balance and systems homeostasis along with decreasing inflammation. This approach helped her with her own neck and back pain from her car accident. Her personal experience with recovering from a traumatic car accident has given her a deeper understanding for her patients, both physically and emotionally, who are undergoing the same traumatic experience.
When Dr. Downing’s not in clinic, you can catch her at the yoga studio or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Brittany found yoga during chiropractic school and feels grateful that she discovered something that continually helps her grow physically, mentally, and spiritually.
As a Colorado native, Dr. Downing is thrilled to be the new co-owner of Accelerate Health in Denver. She is looking forward to becoming even more involved in the Denver community and making a difference through her healthcare profession.
